A word from Doug

Hello loved one's,

My last day at Northern Hills is fast approaching (July 25, 2010).
Who am I joining up with?

I am signing on with a Christian NGO, (Non Government Organization,) that develops community service projects to better the country. While the service projects have value in themselves, they are undertaken as an entry point to share the love of Christ and the Gospel. I am purposely withholding the name from you for safety/security reasons.
Is it safe?

It is the middle east where the mission field and the Christian life is not safe. Each time I cross into the west bank, we will be searched and questioned by soldiers with machine guns. I will primarily be teaching to a Muslim population.

What will I be doing?

Sunday through Wednesday I will be teaching English in a variety of settings with the NGO. When I’m not teaching, I’ll be editing/translating their prayer letter, and editing/ proofreading communications, and for training volunteers to improve their teaching skills. The NGO operates on an academic calendar , so I’ll be free from late May to late August to go, do, and minister wherever the Holy Spirit says. Beirut, Cairo,, Athens, Istanbul, Holt, are close; what a great job I have!
Thank you Jesus ~ thank you, thank you, thank you. Glory to God!

How much money will I be making?

None. This is a volunteer position. I’ll sell my car before I leave, which will give me about two months worth of money before I am flat broke. Some of you will choose to financially support me, some l not. I am not worried about money, but I do want you to know my situation and be able to decide for yourself if you want to join with Jesus and me in Israel/Palestine.

How much does it cost to live in Jerusalem?

A small one bedroom apt. runs about a one thousand US dollars a month. That is enough room for me. I’ll need to buy a bed, and a small fridge. I'm not looking to live high off the hog on your offerings! My bills will include cell phone, internet, utilities, groceries, postage and transportation. I have some additional stateside bills as well. I’d like to be able to give offerings to the poor. In the end, I think I can make it on somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 a month.

Options and Opportunities for Support:
Maybe you just want to give a one time gift? I love one time gifts! Maybe you just want to be an occasional giver? I love occasional givers. Maybe you want to become a regular monthly supporter? These are a God-send, and are the backbone of all missionaries who need to budget and plan. Maybe you want to trust God to provide you with extra monies so you can sow seed into preaching the Gospel? I love it!

I am in need of a nice, huge, suitcase since there are no thrift stores in Israel and I need to bring business clothes. I‘ll also need to buy a cell phone with internet in Israel, (approx $250; things are more expensive there).

My most important support of all, is prayer. I am honored to have you pray for me. Via Sheila, I’ll send you emails or letters of prayer requests and praises.

Additonal questions?
Facebook, email, text or call me. Let’s see the lost saved and discipled for the glory of God!

Much love,
Doug Rawdon
